Sunday Poem By Jhilam Adhikary

Abortion and Sanity

Loud, angry voices of the mob
That think what happens inside a house,
Is their job, their business.
Out after 9, shall stone you to death,
Then shout at cell phones and media.
If fall in love, targeted, harassed, abused,
The mob god, thinks,
Adult individuals can’t make a choice.
No choice, so rape them,
No choice, so imprisoned,
Either behind doors, or clothes.
If pregnant, even when not by choice,
Give birth! Your responsibility, your burden,
Abortion is a sin, your body is not yours;
And the mob god outside decides,
If you have the mental sanity to be parents
Or resources or finances perhaps,
But making a child beg isn’t so bad,
So, the mob will make them say “yes”.
Say Yes, if no, Monster! Child killer!
Making excuses, running away, escape!
Some run away, yes,
Chased, chaste, sane mothers. By will and sanity.
And mercy. To learn to love themselves.
