The Unknown Citizen (Based on 12th August, World Youth Day) – Kunal Roy

You were bred in the city of joy,
Quite a few years ago,
The rich life,
The affluent style!
Pampered.
Endowed with a fast car,
Innumerable comrade,
An inexhaustible bank balance!
The material glitter blinded your vision,
like the flashes of thunder and lighting-
preening the rain drops!
Insolence infected your soul,
arrogance mounted,
Vaulted ambition!
Wedded a little after-
Woman of a noble birth!
Bore children for you,
Integrated and ethical,
taught you the lessons of love for the nation.
Ignored,
Loved the luxury,
to the brim of the pitcher,
Little known of its destined hour,
Would break into fragments,
leaving behind nothing to mourn over,
revival is beyond the term,
Solace in tears,
burn the skin,
shatter the soul,
kill the spirit,
blatantly!
The war broke,
smashing the life of millions,
ravaging the hopes of destitute,
Darkness descended!
The unknown citizen got a summon,
Do or die!
Went to the warfare,
Patriotism scaled,
The sound of shells,
ruptured the ear drum,
smeared with blood, grim and filth!
And a tragic tale,
the fifth day of war,
shadowed sun-
bullets shot,
bombs charged,
killed!
A merciless act,
A tale of sacrifice,
A testimony to the youths!
Dismal tidings,
ripped through the heart-
of her,
his spouse,
a single drop on the epistle,
promised a new sun,
a new day,
a new horizon,
a new birth,
a new life!!
