We had parted in spring
Some four decades back
Resolute, indomitable
Certain of life and people
Roads diverged…
And journeys beckoned
With spirits unchained
Passion ablaze
Ventures…Adventures…Acquisition…Possession
Worth to be proved
Merit established
Approval won
Money, fame, name, award
Everything both great and small
Need be ours…
And on this note we parted
In spring…some forty years ago
Autumn now
When we meet again
In person
How different is this
Real… so unfamiliar
Light years from that on social media
Known names unfamiliar forms
Connecting in time
Who are they who surround
Trying to ‘catch up’ they say
Can we ever !!
Figures past midday
Fatigue concealed by masks
Flaunting the offsprings’ achievements
Son’s marriage, daughter’s promotion
Grandchild’s intelligence…waning health
Coveted holidaying, plush apartments
Shopping haul, lavish anniversaries
Forty years apart…the topics change
The tinge of envy or pride constant
Yet each in silent confession
All that was sought for and chased after
Through the prime of summer and drenching rains
Are all that one wishes to rid of
This mellow Autumn…
When it’s time for harvest
Time to reap…
