Independence might be a word which comes to our mind just before 15th August, but ideally it is a very impactful word. It can interpret many things like the independence of a nation or a clan, the independence of a person, or the independence of ideas. But in general , freedom of thoughts, ideas or actions are the most crucial form of independence.
If a person lives in a very confined environment, with conservative people around then it is really hard for him or her to be free with his or her voice. If we want to think creatively then it is necessary for us to get comfortable with our ideas. But on the contrary, we often come up with discouraging questions like, ‘Will my thoughts be acceptable?’ ‘Can I trust my decisions?’ and the very common, ‘What if I am wrong?’ These ‘not-so-fruitful’ questions tend to fog up our mind, and distract us from the actual points on which we are supposed to concentrate. To be absolutely sure with our ideas and thoughts, we have to overcome the doubtful questions we have inside our heads.
Becoming liberal in thoughts and disciplined in actions need some constant groundwork. If we blindly believe what ‘others’ think is right for us and not what ‘we’ think is right for ourselves from the very beginning, then our lives would always be dependent on others for the simplest decisions. This concept can be very easily aligned with the fact that if the citizens of a dominated country do not speak out for their own rights and privileges then nobody else will. A country’s voice is the voice of its citizens. If the individuals living in the country do not have freedom in their thoughts and actions, then the country is never truly independent.
Our country achieved independence seventy-four years ago and therefore every citizen of India needs to be welcomed with their thoughts and decisions irrespective of their age, caste, race or gender. A country needs the collaboration of all the positive sides of various decisions and accept the ones which we need the most.
