PRISON HYMNS

Slightly more formalized singing,
Slightly more formalized worship,
From the hymn book,
For the church presided over singing,
And over praying,
And she of course,
prayed wih a little more faith,
sang a little more reverentially,
for she was an outsider,
born outside the church,
and brought up by it,
almost.
All were given hymn books,
Mostly xeroxed pages,
In a folder,
And some read them by night.
They were very grateful hymns,
And thanked the Lord immensely.
No one spoke of confinement,
Of unbearability,
Of injustice,
They san g in very obedient voices,
Hymns of praises,
And were sent back into their cells
