Still an Evergreen Hero: A Tribute to the famed film director Rituparno Ghosh on His 8th Death Anniversary
Among the various film directors, the world has ever produced, Rituparno Ghosh really managed to stand out of the crowd! A versatile figure. After being armed with dual degrees from the much prestigious Jadavpur University of Kolkata, the director flaunted his strong penchant for movies, acting, penning profound lines and above all lyrics. His parents were always supportive of his choices and preferences. Being a creative personality, his immense love for colours is something worth mentioning!
Ghosh was much influenced by the Oscar winning film director Satyajit Ray. An avid reader of Rabindranath Tagore. He always believed Tagore to be an inspiration, a guiding force for every creative venture one undertakes! Thus one can discover the poet’s references in his works. A documentary titled “Jiban Smriti” based on Tagore’s life and history earned accolades from its viewers. In a career spanning for almost two decades, he managed to win 12 National awards and many International awards. He also paired up with the personalities like Aparna Sen and Goutam Ghosh to take the Bengali Cinema to a new height of glamour and glitz! Movies like “Titli”, ” Unishe April”, “Chokher Bali” and “Chitrangada” , the much controversial one made him reach the dizzy height of success!
An open minded individual. A trouble shooter. A person who always replied to sms at the earliest. A person who always preferred to cast new faces in his movies like Tapan Sinha. A person who might be scoffed or jeered at for being a part of the queer community of our nation, suffered a major heart attack and passed away on this inauspicious day of 30th May in 2013. A journey of fifty years. A journey of more than fifty shades of life. Today is his eighth death anniversary. There is perhaps nothing to celebrate, except to remember him, realise his august presence and pay deep reverence to his soul amid the flickering candles and burning incense sticks!!
