Sunday Poem By Akash Karmakar

*Greetings Card*

Dazzling greetings, warm wishes scrolling
Dear ones waiting for mandatory midnight call
Alcoholic celebration kicks off a frenzied 365 days
Cracking fireworks add toxic spark
Even the school goers’ ambience are getting topsy-turvy
Late night parties wake up in a dizzy dawn
Enjoying, dancing, screaming, shouting
Hugging, kissing one another
Gradually the inebriation fades away
Under a table lamp or sitting in the river bank
Mourns for oneself
Known faces bid adieu
Lots of resolution dissolve in the rheum.
One day I pull my drawer
And find an old friend, may be far away he is,
On the left top corner my name still shinning
On the right bottom corner his name too
We don’t call, don’t talk, don’t meet,
Don’t dance on the new year eve
But in between words of affection, love relive
It’s not a relics of proximity.
I just fold it again and keep in the drawer
With a silent message,
I get lots of greetings, but not a greetings card.
