Gearing up for a week of love…Valentine’s Week at Sunday Talks

“A future for me is
Already a thing of the Past-
You were my first love And
You will be my last.”
______ Bob Dylan
Dylan never ceases to surprise even in 2021, when, in intermittent bouts of new-found or an old love full of paradoxes we turn to him to search for our soul (mates)! It is true that while celebrating love, we move beyond borders and nourish our faith on what words were told, and what remained. This week, starting with fragrance of Roses, on Rose Day 2021, we start with our High-Five rounds of Sunday Poetry.
While Anjolina’s poem takes us on a romantic journey of will true love be sustained in spite of all odds, crossing rough phases in life. There is a fine thread of understanding the essence of profundity in love, and not just depend on the garb and external beauty. Kunal Roy’s The Home of God is a kaleidoscopic presentation of a vast, idyllic surrounding, much before the onset of a storm. And finally, through his poetic prism, we find how he tastes elixir in the abode of God. Akash Karmakar’s poem is distinctly not about that romance that we fee in the cliched sense of the term, but his farmers, their struggle and smell of the soil bring around a deep sense of ecocritical aspect in the poem. The images, pauses, figures of speech all point to the labour of the farmers, the labour that is associated with harvest. Rejuan Sardar’s plea, as we find in his poem, is to be drowned in the ocean of love. Love, bondage, the first sight of the beloved, and a constant prayer for the beloved to love him, makes the poem very special! And finally, we have another poet, Harekrishna Dey today, who presents the newer, often intractable and yet wonderful ways of discovering connection with the beloved. Simple household and scientific domains like the kitchen or the laboratory mark the space for the celebration of his love!
