Sunday Poetry by Baisakhi Das

Blessings

I’ll hold myself to keep this short
For I was never quite the wordy sort
May the stagnation of the lockdown distort
We pray, as we begin to shower you with our effort
Sunrise bloomed on the 21st day of your birth
The day you were gifted to the people of earth
Though the journey north leads you to question your worth
Let a smile grace your face, laugh with a clear mirth
Identity is all of you, from behaviour to history
You are your own unique entity, with no need for pity
Allow yourself to at times live selfishly
You need not change for others to look upon you pleasantly
Fret not for a future that is yet unclear
Let not fears and tears upon your face smear
The time your own truth is unveiled draws near
Here now, I wish you another blessed year
